Improvisation in the Orff ensemble

Improvisation in all media is an essential component of the Schulwerk. This workshop will focus on a wide variety of structures to evoke spontaneous and thoughtful responses from children. Using children's games, body percussion and speech activities, folk dances and movement activities and small percussion and Orff instrument ensembles, we will explore how improvisation both leads to deeper understanding and reveals what one already knows. The workshop will serve both music and movement specialists and classroom teachers with a variety of musical backgrounds.
